What’s in a name?

We just completed our family album for our little girl and sent it to our agency. It is her introduction to her family and what she will be calling us. Her siblings are so excited to be her ‘chechi’ (respectful term for older sister) and ‘chacha’ (older brother). Little does she know what name we’ve picked out for her. It’s been the most popular question we’ve been asked lately… “What’s her name?” Well ladies and gentlemen (drumroll please), her name is Gabrielle Naina George!

So I know people are divided about how they feel about names. Some people think it should just be fun, funny, serious, sentimental, etc. For our family, there’s a LOT to a name….from the meaning, how it sounds, how it’s pronounced in multiple languages, to whose idea it was. 🙂

With all that being said, I have to break her name down for you. It’s Gabrielle for three reasons:

1. Her sister picked out the name. (The most important reason.)

2. It means “God is my strength/might” & “Woman of God”.

3. Her sister’s name is Mikayla, which is a feminine form of the name Michael. Michael is an arch angel in the Bible. Gabrielle is a feminine form of the name Gabriel. And guess what? (You probably know where I’m going with this..) Gabriel is also the name of an angel in the Bible. So now Alan & I have got ourselves two angels! LOL

Her middle name (as well as her nickname) is Naina (pronounced ‘neh-na’). In Hindi and Marathi (our baby’s native tongue), Naina means ‘eyes’ and it’s used as a term of endearment that means ‘apple of my eyes’. Naina is also a name given to her by one of her aunts so that makes it all the more special!

Gabrielle Naina George – we can’t wait to have you home! We hope you love the album… get used to seeing our faces so you’ll know us when we come get you! 🙂
