Concurrence to Adoption Statement

What Is A Concurrence to Adoption Statement?

I get excited every time I get a call or an email from our adoption agency. Sometimes if it’s been a while since I’ve heard from them, I’ll just call to say hi. Maybe hearing from them gives me some assurance that they haven’t forgotten about us. Well, needless to say, I got an email from them two days ago. It said that the Indian courts were requesting a “Concurrence to Adoption Statement from each of the applicant’s children aged 5 years and above supporting the decision of their parents to adopt and acceptance to have an adopted brother or sister.”

REALLY? Our dossier already included pictures our kids had drawn of their family a year ago. I guess now they need words! They obviously have NO idea how excited my kids are and how long they have been waiting for their baby!

I had to tell the kiddos how important their letters were to India so they did an ‘our letters are going to bring the baby home faster’ dance after they wrote it. LOL.  Levi had to write 3 drafts to finally get one that was legible. He took breaks in between to ‘exercise’ his hands since his fingers started hurting. Poor thing.

The crazy part is that now I have to get their letters notarized and apostilled. Yup, you heard me! At this point, it doesn’t even matter if this sounds like a joke or if they’re pulling my leg – our family will do whatever it takes to bring baby Naina home.

In a recent post, I had mentioned we were waiting for the ARC approval and then the NOC. Well, our agency told us we probably got the ARC approval already. They’re not required to let us know about when the ARC is approved but she’s pretty sure that these letters are to help us with getting the NOC (no objection certificate) completed. So sometime within the last few weeks the ARC was approved and for that we are grateful! Another step closer.
