Alright, so I’m not much of a reader. = ( If given the choice, it would definitely be fiction for me! And yet, Alan and I sit and stare at a pile of books that need to be read and reviewed. In addition to our adoption education course last year, we have to complete a service plan that requires us to read a few adoption books. We not only have to read it but write a short review on each. (For those of you in college…I’m sure all the tricks of the trade are coming to mind when you think of typing up reports!)
If you are wanting to adopt or in the process of adopting and want to check some books out, here’s our list:
1. The Family of Adoption by Joyce Maguire Pavao
2. Twenty Things Adopted Kids Wish Their Adopted Parents Knew by Sherrie Eldridge
3. Attaching in Adoption by Deborah Gray
4. Toddler Adoption: The Weaver’s Craft by Mary Hopkins-Best
5. Our Own: Adopting the Older Child by Trish Maskew
6. Brothers & Sisters in Adoption by Arleta M. James (it’s as big as a dictionary- no joke!!)
7. Nurturing Adoptions by Deborah Gray
8. The Adoptive & Foster Parent Guide: How to heal your child’s trauma and loss by Carol Lozier
Books for Kids:
3. Mommy’s Heart Went Pop! (Love this book! I got it as a gift)
4. Bernstein Bears’ New Baby (had to tweak it a bit while reading but the point was taken by my youngest of how exciting it is to be a big brother!)
5. All About Me (for the adopted child)
Enjoy!
