Valentine’s, Easter, Halloween, Christmas… other than all of these being fun holidays, do you know what they all have in common? They bring about leftover candy! And what in the world do you do with leftover holiday candy? I know, you’re wondering if there’s really such a thing as “leftover candy” because who can ever have too much candy, right?
In our house, if we keep yummy treats for too long, they disappear while tummy aches, cavities and a few extra pounds start appearing. EEK!
Here is my list of the 3 things we do with leftover holiday candy:
- We pick out a handful of a few of our favorite candies to stash away to treat ourselves every once in awhile.
- I’ll put aside a few of the kid’s favorites for the next holiday (ie: You can use it to put in their Christmas stocking)
- Couple of things to note:
- Chocolate can go bad if it’s been a long while so the best candy to put aside is the sugary fruity stuff that last ages.
- If you’re anything like me, you won’t want your kids eating a TON of candy at any holiday so you’ll still end up with a lot of leftovers so only pick out a few. Don’t be a hoarder thinking you’ll need it later on in life.
- Couple of things to note:
- Donate the rest! I got this idea from a friend’s mom and thought this was the best thing EVER!
- Here’s why we love this:
- Donating means it doesn’t go to waste.
- Our kids felt like they were doing something good – giving to a bigger cause.
- Here’s why we love this:
We donated to our troops and found a local drop off location. The first time we donated, I took a video of the lady saying ‘Thank You’ to my kids. She was so pleased to do it and thought it was a great idea that she went a step further and thanked them by name. Needless to say, they were excited to watch the video.
This year, I’m hoping to take them with me so they can experience what it’s like to give. Giving is the best feeling….gives you all sorts of fuzzies!!
