We were anxiously waiting & believing for some news on October 5th since our court hearing was scheduled for that day. October 5th came and went with no news. Our agency called & left a voicemail the evening of October 6th, asking me to call her back.
You have no idea how quickly I called her back. 🙂 It was the best news ever! She said we had passed the courts. I had no idea what it meant so I proceeded to ask her more questions:
1. Does that mean this was the last court hearing? Yes
2. So there’s no more court hearings? No more
3. Wait, so what does this mean? The adoption is official.
4. Does that mean we are now her legal guardians? Um, yes but this is a verbal, they’ll now make it into a written court order.
“AAAAAAHHHHHHHH!!!!” (Screaming in the phone and jumping up and down). Alan knew I was on the phone with them and walked into the house making all sorts of hand motions. As soon as I started jumping, he & my kiddos joined in as well. 🙂
Verbal approval? We’ll take that any day! We feel humbled and overwhelmed all at the same time. Humbled that God would see us fit to be her family & decide to entrust us with another gift. Overwhelmed because it’s been a long and hard 3 and a half year journey to finally know that we have a daughter on the other side of the world. She’s ours. Even though she’s not here with us physically, we are officially a family of 5!
Now we wait for the written court orders that may take up to two weeks. After that, her passport will be issued and sometime in the next few weeks, we prepare for travel. Seems so surreal. I CAN NOT WAIT!
HUGE ‘thank you’ to all of you who have supported us. I know so many have been praying for us – especially during this last phase of the court hearings. I hope our story is a testimony of how God still answers prayers. 🙂
